HAIRSTYLES OF THE WEEK

Geisha Girl

Dare to make a statement with an updo that highlights your fierce sense of style. Stylist Candy Shaw Codner from Jamison Shaw Hairdressers in Atlanta, Georgia, puts a modern twist into a traditional Geisha Girl hairstyle and succeeds, creating a look that captures our attention. After adding voluminous height to the front of the look, Codner delicately intertwines the model’s multi-dimensional brunette strands to form two oversized buns that sit at the nape of the neck.

Hollywood Glam

Few looks command the attention on red carpets like this one by the Paul Kenneth Salon design team in Woburn, Massachusetts. A swooping bang flows into copper-red curls on one side, while the other side is pinned back to highlight the model’s alluring eyes. It’s a simple classic with an edgy appeal that is certain to sex up your style.

Curved Appeal

Drawing inspiration from gorgeous waves seen on the red carpet, stylist Ruth Goertz of Goertz Hair Design in Braunschweig, Germany, shows off this model’s bombshell features with a light and airy look. The separated lengths spring from an off center part, keeping a subtle directional flow that adds movement. Brilliant and shiny mixed brunette and golden hues add to the effect of the sprightly strands for a sophisticated statement.

SHINE ON

This style is all about making a dramatic impact with standout blunt bangs, superior blonde color and brilliant shine. Gone are the limp, dull locks that surrounded this model’s face, replaced with a buttery-blonde hue that perfectly complements her skin tone. The curtain of bangs, along with delicate layers that encapsulate her features, take this look from plain to extraordinary. Stylist Ruth Goertz gets it right, lighting the way for one of this season’s most coveted hairstyles.

9 Beauty Tips to Look Good When You’re Sick

1.  DE-PUFF THOSE PUFFY EYES

Congestion can cause puffy eyes.  Try to sleep with two pillows under your head slightly propped up to allow fluids to drain more easily from your face.   In the morning, take two cold wet tea bags and place them over your eyes while you lie down for 15 minutes (try to find the time to schedule it in :)).  A great way to de-puff those puffy eyes!

2.  COOL THE CREAM

Put your eye cream in the fridge.  The cooling will help fight puffy eyes and will also refresh tired eyelids.

3.  PRIME AWAY

There is no way you will escape sneezing and rubbing your eyes when you’re sick with a flu.  Remember to apply a face primer on top of your moisturizer but under your foundation to keep your makeup on longer throughout the day.

4.  CONCEAL DARK UNDER EYES AND REDNESS

Having a red nose is the biggest sign you’ve got a cold.  Use a full coverage concealer in a yellow undertone to camouflage the redness.

5.  LESS IS MORE

When your sick, your skin tends to be dry (inside & out), so try to wear less of your regular foundation.  As an alternative choose a natural coverage BB Cream or tinted moisturizer to even out your complexion without making the skin look dry.

 6.  WARM UP YOUR SKIN

Adding some color to your skin always makes you look fresher (sick or not).  Take down any pinkness and highlight the warmness in your skin by dusting a natural looking bronzer along your cheekbones and then lightly dusting it all over your face and neck.  Use a peachy blush along the apples of your check and don’t forget to finish off the look with a bit of a natural looking highlighter.  You look as good as ever!

7.  BRIGHTEN UP YOUR EYES

Dab pale, shimmery beige or gold creamy eye shadow on your lids and at the inner corner of your eyes to catch the light and to counteract any redness or dullness in the eye area.

 8.  AVOID RUNNY MASCARA

Sneezes and sniffles mean watery eyes and potential smudging. To avoid a washout, stick with waterproof mascara.

9.  KEEP LIPS SMOOTH AND SHINY

When you’re stuffed up, your lips have a tendency to get super-chapped. Rub them gently with a warm, wet washcloth to remove any flakes, and then condition with a rich salve or balm. Stick with tinted lip balm or gloss in a neutral tone for a fresh look.
