Nath or Not to Nath ?
Originating from the Mughals, the true ambassadors of jewellery crafted with artistic detail, detailed with intricate stonework and chains to enhance to overall beauty of the ornament, this is the era that inspires me.
The Nose ring also known as ‘nath’ is a jewellery ornament that represents culture, beauty and most importantly martial symbolic value for South Asian brides.
When deciding on your perfect wedding dress, the jewellery should not be an afterthought. The right jewellery should show off your beautiful wedding dress and make you feel fantastic, all day long. So when discussing bridal jewellery with clients, there is a topic that I love to mention…
TO WEAR A NOSE RING ON THE WEDDING DAY OR NOT?
We have access to different types of accessories available to wear today for fashion purposes. However, to wear this ornament on your wedding day adds traditional attractiveness and timeless value to complete your bridal look.
Currently, traditional bridal jewellery is here to stay so why not take inspiration from the versatility and symbolic value that the nath brings to your wedding jewels. Here are my favourite types of nose ring looks to consider:
LARGE NATH: THE ULTIMATE TIMELESS CLASSIC!
From royal significance to a bollywood bridal favourite as seen on Aishwarya Rai in Jodha Akbar. Make a traditional statement with this type of nose ring. I adore a large nath whether plain, covered in semi precious stones, kundan or pearls.
SMALL NATH: THE SUBTLE LOOK!
A elegant and lighter jewel that will compliment your entire traditional attire. This is a popular choice among brides especially if you want your head jewels or necklace/haar to do the talking, after all balance is essential.
DECORATED MULTI CHAIN NATH: BE DARING, MAKE A STATEMENT!
This nath style will make your bridal look unique. An excellent way to stand out with decorated layers of chain going up all the way to the hair with spaced out pearls/semi precious stones falling onto the face. Remember your multi chain nath won’t be as extravagant as in the picture!
MAHARASHTRA NATH: CHANNEL THE LOOK OF MILLIONS!
In Maharashtra, women wear this unique pearl nose pin on the side the nose which enhances the beauty of the overall look with the addition of tradition. I just can’t get enough of how Actress Genelia D’Souza looked with this nath at her Masharashtrian style wedding. She like many millions of ladies in India wore an intricately designed ornament that signifies much more than a nose ring.
THE KUNDAN: MESMERIZING ROYALTY
Elegance and royalty brought to our eyes by Sonam Kapoor at Cannes 2013, YES not a bridal look. BUT if you are wearing kundan jewellery on your big day this is the style nath to take into consideration.
DO..
Your research! From the social media to catwalks we have plenty of resources around us. But you have the most reliable sources around you. Ask your mother, aunt and grandmother of their experiences!
DON’T leave it to the wedding day! The last thing you need on the day of your wedding is to worry about your nose ring. My advice is to try your nath on as soon as you purchase it at home or at your bridal trial so you have how it will fall onto your face and comfort levels are crucial!
DO..
buy the nath apart of your bridal jewels; one consistent jeweller is essential to ensure you have consistent craftsmanship that brings the entire look together. Again research well, this is your grand occasion make the jewels be memorable.
DON’T be put off from the nath because your nose is not pierced, the option of clip on nose rings are available.
AND MOST IMPORTANTLY…
Please DON’T rule out wearing a nath because you are not happy with your nose! Challenge this perception you have and I know it is hard to embrace flaws you have grown to dislike, but your features are what represents personality, character and what makes you…you!
What do you think of the bridal nath? Which do you prefer Comment below on your views/experiences..
Which Hairbrush is Best for your Hair?
When it comes to buying a hairbrush – quite possibly, the most commonly used beauty tool – many of us just grab the first one we see off the shelf. However, as I tell my clients as well, using the right hairbrush can make a big difference in maintaining healthy hair and how effectively you are able to style it. For example, just like one cannot (and should not!) use a blush brush to apply eye shadow, hairbrushes – in the same way – come in various sizes and shapes that are designed to do specific functions.
NATURAL BRISTLE BRUSH VS SYNTHETIC BRISTLE BRUSH
First of all, let’s talk about bristles. Brushes of varying shapes and sizes are with natural bristles, synthetic bristles, or a combination of the two. Natural bristles are derived from various animals like squirrels, goats, horses, boars, etc. It is recommended that people with thicker hair should use synthetic bristle brushes as it can be easier to de-tangle and will cause less static, and people with fine to normal hair textures should use natural bristle brushes as the bristles are softer and are easier on thin hair textures. Brushes also come in a natural-synthetic bristle mix and are often called ‘porcupine brushes’. These brushes are good for normal to thick hair, and it combines the benefit of natural bristles mixed together with nylon quills, that help in de-tangling coarser hair.
PADDLE BRUSH: FOR EVERYTHING!
This brush is the whole package deal! Paddle brushes usually have bristles coming out of a soft pad and are great for massaging the scalp, detangling, and smoothing naturally straight hair. It’s also great for other hair types. The air-filled rubber cushion is designed to bend with your scalp to minimize damage from pulling. It would be the ideal brush for anyone that feels that their hair straightens easily when heat is applied.
ROUND BRUSH: FOR BLOWOUTS
Round brushes can be used for any blow dry look you’re going for and they are great for both creating styles with body or smoothing down the hair. Round brushes give you great control during styling.
METAL BRUSH: TO CREATE CURLS
I tell all my stylists to avoid using metal brushes on wet hair as they tend to pull and damage hair. However, they are a perfect tool to use as a finisher since they can smooth down a final look. I would recommend using it to hold a curl in place or to create height at the roots during the finishing stages of a hairdo.
VENTED BRUSH: FOR VOLUME
If you blowdry your hair a lot, these brushes can be of great help. These brushes have holes or openings through the back and are designed to help decrease blow-drying time by allowing air to flow through the brush to the hair. Vented designs are available in paddle and round brushes and are good for creating and augmenting texture, and adding volume.
WIDE-TOOTH COMB: FOR DE-TANGLING
If you have sensitive and thin hair, this comb is perfect for you. Wide tooth combs are what you want to use for de-tangling, especially if you’re in the shower or right after you get out of the shower. Avoid brushing damp hair – instead, always use a wide-toothed comb!
TAIL COMB: TO SMOOTH HAIR OR BACKCOMB
If you’re looking to style bangs or separate hair while flat ironing, choose a smaller toothed comb because they grab the root. These combs are mostly used to tease hair or for backcombing. A piece of advice: Use a matte tail comb over a shiny tail comb as it will give you more control and your sections won’t fly around everywhere.

Things Women Should Stop Apologizing For
Do you often find yourself using the word ‘Sorry’, mostly when you have no idea what you are apologizing for?
Numerous researches suggest that women are the more apologetic sex.
You bumped into me, oh I am so sorry! You stepped on me, ouch I am sorry! are the ironic situations women find themselves apologizing in.
Time to put a stop to this sorry spree and be more rational and level headed individuals if we want the world to respect us. Here are 6 things women should absolutely stop apologising for:
1. Being Independent:
Emotional independence, financial independence or just an independent attitude….be proud of it by all means! Know that you are a strong person who can take care of her own needs and doesn’t need a tissue or a helping hand every 5 minutes. That’s something to be proud of not sorry!
2. Putting our Careers first:
If you are an ambitious person and give your career first priority then so be it. Focus on your goals and achieve your dreams but never feel sorry for your aggressive goals of high targets. Men are never sorry for it, why should we be?
3. Applying Make-up:
If you feel applying 3 layers of base, moisturiser and foundation before stepping out of the house everyday gives you a confidence boost, just go for it. Go all out on the mascara’s, the crazy nail colours and the chic lip shades, just do what makes you feel good about yourself.
4. For saying NO:
For saying NO ,when we want to say no. How often do we accept things, offers not because we want to but just because we just don’t want to disappoint others or spoil their mood. But, the fact is that by being the Yes girl all the time, we make ourselves unhappy and add unnecessary stress and pressure in our lives. Learn to say the two alphabets NO and never feel sorry for it.
5. Loving yourself:
Every person has the right to feel that they are the most important person in their lives and so do you. Do whatever it takes to make yourself smile, treat yourself to good food, drinks and shopping. Travel the world. Treat yourself special….you have every right to!
6. Not being up to it all the time:
There are the good days and then there are the absolutely bad ones, the menstrual cycle days and the general bad hair days. It is absolutely normal and natural to feel down and low during this time and the people around should understand.
Healing Nose/Ear Piercings
girls love piercings! Piercings look great but do come with irritation and sometimes even infection. Try this totka to help heal your infected nose/ear piercing using garlic! Desi cooking is incomplete without garlic but did you know that this miracle herb has been used for centuries to prevent and treat many diseases and conditions?!
INGREDIENTS
Head/Bulb of Garlic
Tea Tree Oil (if needed)
DIRECTIONS:
Take a head/bulb of garlic and remove the cloves. In the center you would find the remainder of the stem. Slice the stem to a size which you would be able to slide into your piercing and remain there comfortably. If you have trouble getting it in, put a bit of tea tree oil (a natural and effective oil to heal infections) on it. Move the stem back and forth a few times during the day to help the piercing heal. Change the stem to a fresh piece on the third day. Use for ear or nose piercings. Your infected piercing will heal within a week.
