'don'ts'

Post break-up 'don'ts'

Femina
Ending a relationship, regardless of the amount of time you’ve spent with the person, is never easy. Once your heart has been broken (or you’ve broken one), you’ll want to crawl under a rock and never come out. Unfortunately, things like life, your job, friends and family come in the way of this. So you have to put on a brave face and forge ahead.

Break-ups also lead to many of us pulling stupid stunts that we are sure to regret once the passion of pain passes. Here are some of the things you should avoid doing right after a break-up.

Drunk dialing your ex.
Heading for the bottle after a break-up is but natural. Alcohol numbs our senses and going out with our girls, getting hammered and flirting with random men ups our self-esteem. However, alcohol also brings back memories, and once the bar shuts and you’re bored of the random man, your attention will veer towards your ex. Calling him at 3am, either to tell him that you still love him or to abuse him and tell him how he’s wronged you, is a very bad idea. You’ll wake up the next morning embarrassed with the knowledge that he is probably judging you and is now surer than ever that breaking up was a good decision.

Stalking your ex on facebook /twitter /etc
The digital age has not made heartbreaks any easier. Now, even if you’ve decided that you never want to see or talk to your ex again, social networking sites will keep you updated on his life, whether you like it or not. Going to his profile everyday, checking who he’s clicking photos with, then stalking the women in his photos, will not help you move on. Going through your past photos with him or previous chats are also unlikely to help too. The best way to deal with this is to steer clear of social networking sites for a week or more, so that you can get used to not seeing him at all (virtually and otherwise) and the desire to know what he’s up to will wane. At this point, you need to concentrate on moving on with your life and not revisiting the past.
