Can Cancer Be Prevented?
A few decades ago, cancer was a very scary and untreatable disease that affected very few people. But today cancer is a household word. We all know someone who has been afflicted. The treatment options have increased manifold in the last few decades, but it still remains a painful, scary and fatal disease for most victims. The lack of a perfectly successful treatment makes us wonder, "Is there a way to prevent cancer"?
Ways To Prevent Cancer
There is no vaccine for cancer yet. But you can certainly minimize the risk by introducing a lifestyle change. Experts believe that a person who is in very good physical and mental health will rarely be affected by cancer. Here are a few things you can do to reduce the risk of cancer:
1. Eat Right: Many carcinogens are found in our diet. Primarily, pesticides which are to be found in our food products and preservatives which are consumed through the packaged food products. Choose a healthier lifestyle by opting for organic products. If you have a kitchen garden, try to grow your own vegetables. Avoid pre-cooked and packed food items. The preservatives are very bad for the body and can cause cancer.
2. Avoid Pollution: Pollution is known to contribute to cancer risk. So be careful about where you live. Avoid very polluting means of transport. As far as possible, protect yourself from the pollutants in the environment.
3. Water: Try to drink clean and hygenic water. Since the tap water in India is known to be muddy, and sometimes mixed with sewage, you need purified water. Invest in a good quality water purification system and protect yourself.
4. Cook: Try to cook your food at home as much as possible. This gives you control over what goes into your body. Try to include a lot of green vegetables and leaves in your diet, while reducing the refined food products and fat.
5. Healthy Habits: If you smoke, try to kick the butt. Reduce your alcohol intake and try to inculcate healthy habits like walking, laughing, stress busting activities etc.
6. Exercise: Keep yourself healthy with daily exercise. Regular practice of yoga is known to cut the risk. Exercise protects you against diseases and also keeps you in shape. It is also a great stress buster. So go and get active!
