7 Makeup Tricks For Bigger Eyes

One makeup trick everyone seems to want to learn is how to make their eyes appear larger than they actually are.

The good news is that it’s not as hard a trick to pull off as you might think! Here are 7 makeup tricks that will make your eyes stand out:

1. Use Dark Eyeliner

Many women avoid dark eyeliner because they fear it will make their eyes look smaller. But the opposite is actually true, as long as it’s applied correctly. The trick is to smudge the liner, and avoid harsh lines.

Use a navy blue or deep charcoal liner along the upper and lower lash line, and then use a white liner on the inner rims of the eyes. You create an optical illusion with the white liner, extending the whites of your eyes and making eyes look even larger.


2. Use A Light Eye Shadow

A makeup trick that does wonders for making eyes look bigger is to use lighter shades of eye shadow, or even white shadow. The key is dotting the light shade in the inner corner of the eyes, which will make eyes look larger and further apart.

3. Use An Eyelash Curler

One trick if you’re going for a very wide-eyed look, is to curl your eyelashes. It’s a great makeup trick that will instantly make eyes appear larger.

You’ll want to put the curler as close to the lash line as possible for the first curl. Next, pinch again towards the middle of the lash, so you end up with a more natural curl.


4. Smudge Your Eye Pencil

Just like with eyeliner, smudging your eye pencil will give the illusion of larger eyes.

First, line the as close to the lash line as possible. Do not apply inside the lash line! Use a smudging brush, and smudge the pencil outwards to create a “smoky eye” that sizzles! Do both the upper and lower lid.

Make sure you use a light touch, or you’ll end up with “raccoon eyes”.


5. Apply Eye Liner Thicker In The Center Of The Eyelid

To help create the doe eyed look, it helps to apply eyeliner so that it draws more attention to the center of the lash line, making it appear to lift. Do this by applying liner so that it is thing at the outer corner and thicker as it moves in, then thinning out again toward the inside corner.


6. Use Twice The Mascara

We all know what a coat of mascara can do to open eyes up – and applying two coats can do even more! Make sure to let the first coat dry completely before you apply the second – lashes will look thicker and your eyes will really draw attention.


7. Use More Than One Color Of Shadow

Women in a hurry sometimes use just one color of shadow across the lid, but that can give an illusion of smaller eyes, which is not what we’re going for!

Instead, blend a lighter shade in across the inner corner of your eye, and across the brow bone; this will give the appearance of a larger eye. Make sure to use a brush or cotton swab to blend colors so there are no harsh lines.
